Welcome to Mared Hughes

I have created a variety of different artworks that consists of paintings, sculptures and illustration style pieces. In the past I have created various abstract pieces looking at the ideas surrounding colour theory and experimentation with colour. I would look into how different combinations of colours effect each other and the way in which colour itself can affect the reaction of audience towards a piece of work. In the past I have also had some work develop into sculptural pieces which was a new interesting way of creating pieces in a more 3d sense. 

 The artwork I am currently working on is more personal to me, it's got more emotion within it and consists around the way I have been feeling throughout this new way of life because of the recent lockdown. My work is a personal response to the emotions of everyday life when I was stuck within my house for a few months cause of the global pandemic. I have been creating illustrations and acrylic paintings surrounding the theme of daydreaming and the emotions of feeling trapped and longing to be elsewhere but truly unable to make this happen. Have been using photography and collage to help me develop and generate the ideas for my recent work and taking these and creating the final pieces, focusing on using portraits to convey the human emotions that I’m feeling. I have also been including the ideas of inner and outer self within these pieces, trying to show how a person can put up a front and look like they're happy and feeling amazing but on the inside their struggling and finding it hard to cope. I will portray this with collaged images or paintings within drawings showing the inner coming forth towards the outer self.
